Vignerons d'Argeliers

Cooperative winery in Languedoc comprised of 300 tiny winegrowers, created in 1931, spanning 16km2 of vineyards in the AOC Minervois area. The winegrowers of the small town of Argeliers are known for being at the origin of the ‘Revolt of the Languedoc winegrowers’ in 1907, which was a mass movement led by Argeliers’ winegrower Marcelin Albert. The revolt was caused by falling wine prices and the need to eliminate unfair competition, leading to laws preventing the watering of wines and the abuse of sugar, with a new decree issued stating that: ``No drink may be owned or transported for sale or sold under the name of wine unless it comes exclusively from the alcoholic fermentation of fresh grapes or grape juice``.
